ERTE inspiration for the day. PINK LADY

remember in steel magnolias (sniff) when julia roberts said her wedding colors were blush and bashful? well.....now that spring is right around the corner....we all need to think that way too. i've said it once...i'll say it again.....when it comes to your makeup: THINK PINK ladies.
these are the words i want you to embrace for spring maquillage: frothy, light as air, glowy, rosy, sweet, flushed.............dewy..........pink-ness.
and remember.....nothing brings a freshness (and color) to your face like blush. now is the season to "heart" blush. cream, liquid or powder. bring on the blushing YOU.
a few fun ones to try:
TARTE flush
SMASHBOX o-glow

think pink.........now think neutral.....now think of them together

it may sound weird.....but this is some of the easiest to follow, simple to understand makeup advice you'll ever get. when you want to look your best.......young, fresh, vibrant....glowing with good health......forgo all the makeup trends and "right now" colors.......and stick to pinks & neutral browns. that's all you need. yes, it really is that simple. they are flattering on every skin tone.....they bring out your natural beauty (and the color of your eyes, lips, etc).....they are foolproof shades that everybody can use. and you wanna know the best thing about them? you can mix them....and they compliment each other perfectly. i kid you not. for years i've been mixing and concocting colors in my bathroom....i can't leave an eyeshadow alone or wear just one lipstick or gloss.....i have to MIX..........i don't believe you can get just the right shade on its own......you need to LAYER colors to get the perfect blend. next time you're staring at yourself in the mirror...trying to decide what colors to wear......try this: got a nice, warm brown eyeshadow? good....put it on......now take your rosy blush and sweep a wash of color over the brown and blend.........yum. pretty, huh? same for blush.........mix two shades together (think healthy, blushing tan)........or do a sweep of the bronzer to give yourself a little mid-winter glow.....tap on a pinky, pearly highlighter on cheekbones, temples, bridge of nose.....then a warm, plummy blush.........same for lips......have a favorite neutral lipstick for a nude mouth? try a rosy tinted gloss over it to "blush" it up.....or in reverse......a mauve/rose/pink lipstick might be boring or even too bright on its own.....but when you put a brown-sugary lip gloss or glaze over it........it's magically transformed!! you may scoff and say this doesn't make sense..........but i'm telling you....it works every single time. from brides to prom girls to teaching teens how to use makeup for the first time.......i've tried this on every person who has ever sat in my makeup chair....and the results are gorgeous.....and natural.....and like you didn't have to try too hard...........and hey, isn't that what makeup is supposed to do?

LOVE these...

philosophy's "hope springs eternal" deep sea hydrating spray mist. use it before you put makeup on.....after you're finished for a dewy glow.....and any time you need a refreshing pick-me-up.....smells divine......you'll find you can't live without it

paul mitchell's awapuhi wild ginger styling treatment oil.......i never thought i would find something to compete with my beloved moroccan oil....but this does the trick. it's lighter than previously mentioned oil.....and doesn't weigh your hair down....use on ends before blow drying and after you're done styling....tousle into your hair and enjoy the gorgeous ginger scent all day long. people will want to sniff your hair......can you blame them?

makeup for ever HD high definition invisible coverage foundation...i'm a huge fan of mineral makeup.....tap, swirl....you know how it goes....but during the fall and winter months my skin gets dry and is begging for a break....this foundation feels like nothing--i swear you won't even know it's on your face....yet isn't as drying as mineral powder foundations. it's glowing perfection in a small bottle. hurry.....go get yours. you can thank me later. bonus: they have a generous list of shades with undertones of pink, neutral and yellow--yay for us yellow, sallow skinned girls!!

too faced absolutely invisible candlelight pressed powder. brush this where candlelight would naturally light up your face (apples of cheeks, forehead, chin, bridge of nose.....browbone) and infuse yourself with flattering, illuminated skin all day/night. and the bonus is that it's in a compact....so it's not messy like the loose versions that everybody makes. there is nothing worse than getting sparkly powder everywhere.....trust me on this one.

i am a mascara slut...

it's true.........i always have been. loyal to no brand and willing to try anything. since i was a teenager, i have been on the hunt for the perfect mascara (who hasn't?). i want lengthening...thickening...no flaking....glossy, rich color (the inkiest, blackest of nights) and it must dry quickly but not too quickly....you know what i mean. just to give you an idea of my "obsession", here is a sampling of what is currently nestled on tray number two of my fold-out makeup case: dior- diorshow, lancome defincils, clinique lash doubling, maybelline falsies, covergirl lash blast, benefit bad gal in black AND plum and finally....my newest darling: rimmel lash accelerator in extreme black. whew.....quite a collection you say? you have nooooo idea. i have tried all the expensive brands as well as everything you can get at the drug store......they work for a while and then it's on to the next best thing.....it is an odyssey. and it doesn't matter if your best friend recommends her favorite.....you have to find your own favorite--the one that makes YOU happy (much like finding the perfect guy). i will never break up with benefit's bad gal in plum....that particular color and i will have a long and happy life together (and girls, it layers well over your favorite black mascara to give green & blue eyes a a special "pop" of color). but for now....my new "steady-for-the-moment"....the rimmel accelerator........is the one that will adorn my lashes...........for at least another week....until something new catches my eye.
